What is Web Hosting?

In simple words, Hosting is home for your Website. If you need a Website you will need somewhere to host it. To make your Website visible on the Web your Website/ Web Page and Files must be physically stored in a computer/ Server that is connected to the internet. These high-tech computers are called Web Servers. Website Hosts are companies that physically have several Servers at a location. Web Hosts are also named as Data Centre. These companies are not only providing Servers but also provides software to use the server, Security as it is an important part of Website Hosting, Bandwidth that connects your Website to the Internet, and Support if you face any problem. 

Web Hosting companies are just like a Shopping Mall. If you want to start your business in a mall, you go and lease out a shop on rent. Just like a shopping mall, Website Hosting companies offers you to lease space on the Server to store your Website and Data. The Web Hosting company will take care of the Server and Bandwidth for you. 

Types of Web Hosting

There are different types of hosting available in the market like Shared Hosting, Dedicated Hosting, and Virtual Private Server. These are some types of Hosting according to the requirement and need.

The Hosting service is based on your Website requirement. It depends on how bigger your website is and performance your website needs. It is always better to start with a small and upgrade as your website grow. 

Shared Hosting

The most common Hosting service is Shared Hosting and it is the best service available in the market for small entrepreneurs/ business. In Shared Hosting multiple websites are allotted to a single server and all the websites store their data on a single server. For example, if I have chosen Shared Hosting for my website then there are multiple other websites working on the same server that is known as Shared Hosting. 

Dedicated Hosting

With Dedicated Hosting, you are the only admin of that server means you have the entire computer for yourself. With Dedicated Hosting, you can optimise the Server as per your website’s requirement. Dedicated Hosting is quite expensive than Shared Hosting but it will give you greatly improved and steady performance of your website. This type of Web Hosting is not profitable for all websites owners due to its cost. If you have a heavy website and you don’t want to compromise with the loading time, speed, data privacy and security than you must go for Dedicated Hosting.

Virtual Private Server

Virtual Private Server is an optimised way of both the Dedicated and Shared Hosting. For example, If you are a big company but not that big to get a dedicated server and maintain the server but you also don’t want to share the hosting with multiple other sites because of your data privacy and security or any other reasons then you must go with Virtual Private Server. With V.P.S, you don’t need to set up a complete server at your place you and no other sites will be allotted to that particular server. You can just go for Hosting service companies who will help you with hosting a VPS at their place. You can remotely access your server from your place and the Hosting company will maintain your server for you.
